Edinburgh Beginners' Tournament 2011

Elaine Nolan Reports on her Experience in Edinburgh

We had no idea what to expect when we signed up for the Edinburgh tournament. I felt a bit dodgy handing over money to a girl with a turtle bag… but we were assured the weekend would be amazing.

Friday started at around 6am for most of us and our journey consisted of a bus, bus, boat, train, train, train, walk- 15 HOURS LATER we arrive for and festivities and we meet some of the other colleges. I have to name and shame Gráinne because she got left on the train by herself and was on her way to somewhere in Wales. We would have carried on without her, only she had ALL our train tickets!

The next day of matches was brutal. We played against some outstanding teams and although we fought hard to keep up, we faced quite a few losses. Nonetheless, we kept our spirits and motivation high and we had great fun with the other teams after the matches.

One our second night in Edinburgh, Trinity won the best costume award for our incredible Incredibles outfits which consisted of revealing red tights and not so attractive black knickers! Inebriated is an understatement for describing the state of some of the team members. Shockingly, we did much better in the matches on Sunday. Trinity 1 won 2 out of 4 matches Trinity 2 won 3 out of 4. This just goes to show that getting trolleyed the night before increases game performance!

Overall I think everyone improved loads, worked well as a team and we all had an incredible weekend! Then for the long journey home again…
